About Us

 Shamrock Fishing Charter’s History

Shamrock Fishing Charters was founded by Captain Roger, my father-in-law. I, Captain John Nickell, now run the business. Captain Roger was a skilled fisherman and taught me everything I knew about the charter business. Besides, he was a passionate outdoorsman and a champion pistol shooter in Ohio during the late ’60s. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through our business.

The Early Years

“I spent 35 years working in the printing and packaging industry while running Lake Erie Walleye Charters on weekends. Captain Roger handled trips during the week. After retiring from my previous job, I now run the charter business full-time. While there are many skilled “weekend” captains, there’s no denying the value of a captain with full-time experience.”

Shamrock Fishing Charters provides an authentic and exciting sports fishing experience. We spend almost every day on the water, which keeps us up-to-date with all the best fishing spots. With this knowledge, you have the best chance of catching the maximum number of walleye or perch. One of our most popular services is our Lake Erie Perch Charters, which many customers love.

We offer drift fishing or trolling for walleye and allow our clients to handle their rods, reels, and lures.

This gives you an exciting, hands-on experience with various fishing techniques. It’s the most fun and exciting way to spend your day on Lake Erie.

When you set the hook into this aggressive game fish, the excitement will stay with you for a lifetime. Our charter boat is fully equipped with the best drifting and trolling gear to meet the current conditions of Lake Erie.

The Western Basin Is Where The Action Is!!

Here in the Western Basin of Lake Erie, we primarily fish for walleye and yellow perch. We use several different fishing styles and techniques throughout the season, depending on the current lake and weather conditions. We may start the season by jigging hair jigs for walleye or trolling crank baits in deeper water.

As the season warms, we drift and cast a spinner harness tipped with a worm or troll various spoons with jet divers. Lake conditions such as current, wind, migration patterns, and viability play essential roles in the style of fishing your captain chooses on a given day. Shamrock Fishing Charters provides our clients the best opportunity for a successful fishing day on Lake Erie.

We recommend convenient overnight lodging at Lake Erie Charters-Lodging, close to our marina at Meinke West Marina. Don’t miss out on the best fishing option on Lake Erie. Call Captain John at to reserve your fishing trips with Shamrock Fishing  Charters today.
